It’s funny how much we talk about the weather, at least around these parts. Perhaps it’s because we’re all in it together, this waiting for spring to be spring. I check weather updates repeatedly as if somehow my multiple visits per day to our local weather station’s website will translate to warmer temperatures in the forecast. Every year the  Dairy Farmers of Canada release a free calendar featuring recipes starring one or more dairy products. The Milk Calendar is a fixture on my parents’ fridge. Even though they no longer eat dairy. But it’s an endearing tradition and I always look forward to flipping through it. While I cringe at the propaganda that continually tries to convince the public that eating dairy is a good and essential thing to do (it’s not), a few of the calendar’s recipes can be adapted to suit a vegan diet. In December, we watched The Hundred Foot Journey, a story about an Indian family who reestablishes their family restaurant in France after a tragedy in their homeland. It’s also a story about a love for food and the nuances of putting together a dish and how strongly a meal can evoke memories of ones loved and gone. Perhaps, it’s no mystery then of why Jesus had us remember His sacrifice with bread. And though this recipe could not do justice to a traditional Indian curry, I find it rather tasty.
