More than just a wise advisor, God sees the full picture – past, present and future. He knows what will prosper your work and bring Him glory. By humbly seeking His wisdom in Scripture and listening for His guidance, He can give you clarity, align your plans with His purposes, warn you of pitfalls, and prompt you to act in faith.

Following are examples of five powerful prayers for making wise business investments, pulled from The Business Detox(tm) Resource Library, and why they are important.

Dear God,

Thank you for your unconditional love and guidance in my business. I ask for Your guidance as I build and grow this business. You know the investment decisions that are before me right now for my business and I’m not sure which direction to take. Your word says You freely give us wisdom when we ask You for it (James 1:5). I need Your wisdom and guidance in this area Lord. Thank You for Your faithfulness to fulfill that Scripture. Because I trust in You, I know you will help me to make wise decisions for business investments that honor You and help it grow.

In Jesus’s name, Amen.

When you thank God for His guidance before making any business investments, it puts you in the right heart posture before Him. Coming to God with a grateful and humble heart for all He has done, allows you to surrender your own ideas and agenda.

Gratitude focuses your mind on God’s past faithfulness. It builds trust that He will continue to so for you in the future. It also protects you from pride and self-reliance – two enemies of wise investing.

Other Scriptures to consider praying through: James 1:17, Proverbs 3:5-6.

Lord,

Thank You that Your word is profitable for all things. (2 Timothy 3:16-17). When it comes to business investments, especially ones that require a larger portion of my time or finances, please guide me to Scripture to help confirm the direction in which I am to go. I want to honor you by stewarding well the resources You have gifted me. Help me to be patient in waiting on Your answer. I trust that as I listen to Your instruction, You will bless my work for my good and Your glory. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

As a follower of Christ, you can look to God’s word for timeless principles that offer wisdom for every area of life, including how you invest in and build your businesses. The Bible may not specifically tell you how to market your business or when to hire a VA, but it provides values that undergird wise and ethical investing. It also helps you examine your heart to uncover the motives behind wanting to make a particular investment in your business.

Other Scriptures you can pray through: Proverbs 2:1-5, Proverbs 6:6-8, Proverbs 22:7

Dear God,

I know that You “own the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10-12). Everything that is on this earth is Yours…including my time, my finances and my business. Help me to steward well the investments You ask me to make with the time and money given to me. I know You are watching the decisions I make with my resources to see if I am ready to handle more. I want to be like the good and faithful servant, neither wasting or hiding my “talents” (Matthew 25:14-30) Please provide me with wise advisors who can help me steward these business investments well. (Proverbs 11:14) In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Investments often seem exciting when you first make them. However, maintaining dedication over the long-term is key. Investments need time and attention before they yield results. It’s helpful to set clear objectives and metrics to track the performance of the investment. Regularly analyze if it’s achieving the desired outcomes. If it isn’t, take that back to the Lord in prayer. You may need to adjust how you’re stewarding it or the season for that investment may be ending.

Lord,

I confess it’s easy for me to run ahead of You in making investment decisions for my business. You know I want it to grow and be successful. Stop me from investing from a place of fear or lack of trust in You. Instead, help me to trust that the investments You are leading me to make are what I need. In the moments, where I feel uncertain, I trust You will be the light to my feet in the lamp to my path (Psalm 119:105). In Jesus name, Amen.

Although God gives you the freedom to make plans for your business, the ultimate outcome is in God’s hands. Have faith He will guide your investments and efforts. Trust that if something does not work out, God has something better in store. As long as you are operating ethically and prayerfully, you can trust God with the results. He knows the big picture and can bless your business in ways you cannot imagine. Be willing to take wise risks and leave the outcome up to Him.

Other Scriptures you can pray through: Proverbs 16:9, Ephesians 3:20, Philippians 1:6

Dear God,

Thank You that You open doors no man can shut and close doors no man can open (Revelation 3:7-8). Help me not to run ahead of You and try to open doors I’m not meant to walk through. I know You will reveal new opportunities in areas to expand and develop and I thank You for it. You know I am uncertain about this investment I am considering making for my business. Lord, if it is not of You, please firmly close the door. If it is from You, help me to walk through it confidently and steward it well. In Jesus name, Amen.

When considering a major investment for your business, it’s important to pause and discern if this opportunity is from God or not. Look for confirmations that this investment aligns with God’s purpose and plan for your business. Listen for that still, small voice guiding you. Watch for supernatural favor and divine appointments opening the way before you. At the same time, be sensitive to any restraint, closed opportunities, or lack of peace which could signal God blocking something not meant for you. Seek wise counsel from mentors and advisors who know your business and values.

Other Scriptures you can pray through: Isaiah 40:31, Lamentations 3:25, Philippians 2:13
